Old Age Communities
The Reference Model colony design provides
three gravity environments: Earth normal, 2/3 Earth, and 1/3 Earth. The
latter two gravity levels would be quite suitable for elderly citizens: While
the senior members of our society often retain their mental faculties, their
physical reaction time is slowed due to their advanced age. Consequently,
when they fall, they tend to suffer greater injuries because they cannot catch
themselves to break the fall. In a lower-gravity environment, the duration of
the fall would be longer, giving them more time to react - and reduce the
chance of dangerous injuries.
